Aluminium, Commercial Alloy
6101 T6 Bar & Extrusion
A heat treatable wrought aluminium alloy used in the manufacture and construction of electrical power distribution components and equipment.
6101 is a heat treatable wrought alloy best suited for applications involving moderate strength and maximum electrical conductivity.
It is similar to alloy 6063, but with minor chemistry changes which enhance electrical conductivity. Although this alloy is primarily used for busbar conductor applications it is also an excellent choice for other electrical projects.
This alloy is available in various temper conditions. The wide variety of tempers provide different strengths, formability, and electrical conductivity levels which allows for design flexibility.

Additional Information
Weldability
- Aluminum 6101 alloy can be welded using all standard welding methods. Inert gas arc welding method is the most preferred method for welding this alloy. The strength of the subsequent parts will be reduced when welded in the heat treated condition.
Heat Treatment
- Aluminum 6101 alloy does not react to heat treatment. However, heat treatment can be done by annealing and aging.
Cold Working
- Aluminum 6101 alloy can be cold worked in the aged or annealed conditions.
Forming
- Aluminum 6101 alloy can be formed using conventional methods.
